A significant part of the radioactivity intrudes into the human body through ingestion of food. GIHMM's COMO Contamination Monitor measures and quantifies radioactivity and identifies radioactive nuclides (radioisotopes) in food and other materials.
The ease of use of COMO and its accuracy make it the ideal analysis tool for a variety of applications to identify radioactive contamination in a very short time in food, milk, water, wastewater, materials, components and many more.
Main applications of the contamination monitor COMO
Thanks to the supplied software, the COMO Contamination Monitor identifies the radioactive nuclides I-131, Ru-103, Cs-134, Cs-137 and K-40 efficiently and precisely. The following substances and materials can be tested for possible radioactive contamination:
- Food, milk, dairy products and juices
- animal feed
- Waste, wastewater, sewage sludge
- raw materials, soil (farmland)

Accurate measurement results in a very short time
Due to the large measurement chamber volume and the 35 mm thick lead shielding, COMO enables clearly better accurate measurement results, compared to similar products in this class, at a very attractive price. And the analysis process takes no longer than 10 minutes.
Extended application possibilities through Gihmm product combinations
The choice of the gamma spectrum probe GSP02 with either 2"or 3" NaI(Tl) scintillator in combination with our GAMMA TOOLs expands the application possibilities enormously:
- Use the GSP02 in the laboratory with COMO to analyse the desired materials for radioactive contamination.
- Use the GSP02 with our GAMMO TOOLs and go into the field on-site and take measurements In situ. (for example, mushrooms in the forest or venison at the market stall)
- COMO is needed in a different location and no PC and/or power supply is available? In connection with GAMMO TOOLs, you are also flexible and non-mobile.
- Do you need a complete detailed spectrum analysis? This is also available in combination with our evaluation software.
Identification of specific radioactive nuclides
Do you want to identify very specific radioactive nuclides? We are happy to advise you on the use of the right GSP02, for example with LaBr3(Ce) or CeBr3 scintillator.
Calibration laboratory for radioactivity measuring instruments
We are also a calibration laboratory, which is a certified testing laboratory and can therefore inspect any radioactivity meter.

Measurement of radioactive contaminants in food, mushrooms or game
Some foods, such as certain edible mushrooms or venison, are still contaminated with Cs-137. It is also recommended to inspect foods from Eastern European countries. With COMO, you receive significant analysis.
Sampling tests for radioactivity in raw materials for food
Raw materials and ingredients for food production can be randomly controlled for radioactivity to avoid contamination of the final product. This saves enormous costs in an emergency.
Control of wastewater or sewage sludge for radioactive contamination
Wastewater or sewage sludge can be controlled for radioactivity to ensure its safety for the environment and groundwater.
